The Dark Side of Recycling

When the New York Times this past weekend published a story about a recycling worker crushed to death by his own compactor, it pulled the curtain back on the often brutal life of those who move our trash. Join guest blogger Kiera Feldman for a further look at the murky world of private garbage and recycling collection in NYC, in a riveting, award-winning piece published in collaboration with ProPublica

In addition, we continue the tales of the kids of our local STEM Eco-Schools programs, courtesy of the 4th graders from P.S. 34. Will Imogen's class pass its Sustainability audit?  Find out in this this week's episode!

And then, did you ever wanted to do bondage on fruit trees? Learn how this week, at one of our local events.

And finally, get your prize on!  This week, we again offer a genuine Italian Biking Cap, courtesy of Silk Road Cycles. Check it out!

And don't forget to follow us on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter!

THE END
Welcome to the end of our email, where, like Roberto Begnini's body in tumult, we offer you the chance to win a prize! This week? A lovely cap!

There was no winner last week.  Step it up, Greeners!

All you have to do be a winner like him is answer me this question (which, if you've read this email, should be a snap):
  • How many people were killed in NYC by private sanitation trucks in 2017?

Send your answer to jamie@townsquareinc.com, along with your name and anything else you want us to know about you. Our winner will be selected at random, and published here, next week.

This week's prize: a Free Cap (pictured) from Silk Road Cycles. If you don't know Silk Road Cycles yet, make this your chance to get to know them!  A fabulous shop on the corner of Franklin & Calyer, Silk Road features a full menu of repairs and tuneups, as well as a nice supply of cycles for every need. Bike on, friend!
